RIVALRY: Sister VS Brother is a collaborative—and competitive—exploration of Vancouver Island through two creative lenses: the painted interpretations of Kailee Perret and the photographic perspectives of her brother, Steven Perret. What began as a spontaneous idea sparked by a shared image has evolved into a playful artistic challenge between siblings, traveling side by side across the rugged beauty of the West Coast in search of inspiration, connection, and the perfect shot.
Over the course of a year, Kailee and Steven ventured through forests, coastlines, and trails—often revisiting familiar places with fresh eyes, or discovering new ones for the first time together. Each location became a shared moment, later divided into two interpretations: one captured through Steven’s evolving eye for photography, and the other filtered through Kailee’s signature painting style.
The result is a visual dialogue—sometimes harmonious, sometimes contrasting—that invites the viewer to compare, question, and choose sides (or not). It’s an exhibition built on sibling rivalry, mutual admiration, and the simple joy of creating side by side.
This show is not just about the places they visited, but the journey they shared: the laughter, the arguments, the long drives, and the unexpected snacks. It is a love letter to family, to nature, and to the never-ending creative tension that pushes artists to do better—especially when their biggest rival is also their biggest fan.
