Jo-Anne Silverman was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She studied with and was especially influenced by Ivan Eyre, Don Reichert, George Swinton, and Arnold Saper. Silverman has participated in numerous exhibitions (Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Thunder Bay,Victoria) and has been the recipient of Ontario Arts Council grants and a Manitoba Arts Council grant.

Silverman’s work is in the collections of Crown Life Toronto, Esso Calgary, The Canada Games Complex Thunder Bay, as well as in private collections across Canada.
She been a member of the Gage Gallery Art Collective since March 2019.

Artist’s Statement
I feel my works are visual mindscapes resisting formal conceptualization. Working nearly automatically, overall, they are about impass/breakthrough, obstruction/construction, and closings and openings.
