Deborah is self taught, and creates only from her imagination, instincts and intuition. Her work reflects a deeper understanding of reality as perceived by the subconscious and springs from personal challenges faced during a time of recovery in hospital.
She paints for the sheer joy of it, creating images that integrate elements of fantasy and nature. The themes she explores include roads, pathways, hills, valleys, lakes ponds and forests, which are often populated with imagined and often distorted or abstracted creatures, people, animals and insects.
Her aim is to create a vision of places where the viewer can escape, leaving behind their everyday concerns, even if only for a few moments. She draws and paints on paper and canvas, using acrylics and permanent inks.
